Comment: The only problem with these high profile operations is that the methods used are far from clear-cut. Who cares? Well, if you're innocent then it should be of concern. Entrapment methods are highly dubious. Meanwhile, the real arch-child rapists in government and other organisations and groups continue their predatory behaviour. Police have arrested 660 suspected paedophiles including doctors, teachers and former police officers in one of the largest operations of its kind.
The six-month operation targeted people accessing indecent images of children online.
The suspects included a doctor and another man, and examination of their computers uncovered more than one million indecent images.
Police said that 431 children were traced and made safe as part of the operation coordinated by the National Crime Agency.
One suspect admitted viewing indecent images for 30 years and travelled regularly to South-east Asia for sexual purposes. Another was a foster carer who had been looking after for a vulnerable child at the time.
Thirty-nine of those arrested were registered sex offenders.
NCA deputy director Phil Gormley said: “This is the first time the UK has has the capability to coordinate a single targeted operation if this kind.
"Over the past six months we have seen unprecedented levels of cooperation to deliver this result."
