U.S. Farmer Sentenced After Being Tracked By DRONE and Arrested, For Refusing To Return Cows

Political Blindspot

Rodney Brossart is the first U.S. citizen to be tracked by drone and arrested. Beyond this historic “first,” his case could not be more bizarre. Brossart is a farmer who was arrested after a Predator drone tracked him. Law enforcement swarmed in with a SWAT team after Brossart said he would not return three cows that had apparently wandered on to his property.

The standoff occurred in 2011, but Brossart was sentenced yesterday, making him the first American to be sent to prison as a result of domestic drone spying.

The “armed standoff between Brossart, his three sons and a SWAT team” only ended after members of the Brossart family were located by a Predator drone borrowed from Customs and Border Patrol.

The disturbing precedence of the Brossart case, says that police are able to spy on you without a warrant, using a drone. Brossart tried to get the entire case thrown out, saying that there was no warrant for the drone surveillance. The federal judge in this case rejected the motion. What are your thoughts? Is this just a matter of course in our growing surveillance state? Or should we be outraged by the use of warrantless drone searches?
