MSNBC Contributor Faces Backlash For Criticizing Media Coverage of Conflict in Gaza

Ben Swann

In an interview with Ronan Farrow on the MSNBC program Ronan Farrow Daily, on Monday afternoon, Palestinian Journalist, Rula Jebreal, contributed her view concerning the mainstream media’s coverage of the current conflict in Gaza. “We are ridiculous. We are disgustingly biased when it comes to this issue,” Jebreal said.

“I’ve never seen one Palestinian being interviewed on these same issues.” said Jebreal, who pointed out that leaders such as Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, are offered air time on a daily basis.

Farrow interrupted, saying, “Well, I’ll push back on that a little. We’ve had Palestinian voices on our air.”

Maybe for 30 seconds and then you have 25 minutes for Bibi Netanyahu,” insisted Jebreal.

Jebreal went on to bring up the example of Ayman Mohyeldin, a Foreign Correspondent for NBC News, who was pulled from Gaza after witnessing and reporting on the deaths of four Palestinian boys due to an Israeli airstrike.

Ayman Mohyeldin is covering the Palestinian side and we get upset: It’s too pro-Palestinian,” said Jebreal.

Farrow noted that Mohyeldin had been sent back to Gaza, and said that he thinks it is a sign of “very fair and balanced coverage.”

Jebreal insisted that Mohyeldin’s return to Gaza was a result of the pushback from the public opinion, and was “Thanks to Social Media.”

Jebreal said that she contributes the fact that the majority of Americans choose to side with Israel, to the fact that the “Israeli voice” receives 90% of the mainstream media’s coverage. “That’s why the public opinion is pro-Israeli, which is different in the rest of the world,” said Jebreal.

On Monday evening, Jebreal posted a Tweet saying that her upcoming TV appearances had been cancelled. She hinted at the fact that there were ties between her comments on Ronan Farrow Daily, and the cancellation, and then went on to mention another MSNBC Commentator, Eli Lake, asking if the same thing had happened to him.
