BBC staffing guidelines say one in six on-screen roles 'must be gay, lesbian, trans, or disabled' by 2020

Comment: This report is from 2016.

As we approach 2020 any cursory glance at drama from Les Miserables to Silent Witness and every other drama has come under the jackboot of the diversity police - regardless of historical realism and intrinsic merit.

One in six of all on-screen BBC roles must go to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender or disabled people by 2020, the corporation's new diversity targets state.

In a bid to deter criticism that it has been failing to reflect its audience, the BBC has pledged that LGBT and disabled people will each make up eight per cent of all on-air and on-screen roles.

The new targets follow a heated debate in the House of Commons led by David Lammy MP on the issue of the broadcaster's diversity.

Fifty per cent of all on-screen and broadcasting roles will go to women, who already make up 48.5 per cent of the BBC's total workforce.

However, the BBC will still be able to commission shows where the main roles are more likely to be male-dominated.

Radio 2, which has a particularly male-dominated line-up of broadcasters, including DJs and presenters Chris Evans, Simon Mayo, Jeremy Vine and Bob Harris, faces an overhaul.

Last year, a review by the BBC Trust, the corporation's watchdog, found that six stations - including Radio 2 - raised concerns that they were failing ethnic minority audiences.

Radio 2 was highlighted as having particular difficulties in attracting non-white listeners.

It was said to reach an average of only 12 percent of BAME (black, Asian and minority ethnic) adults each week, compared to 35 percent for all adults.

Immigration, Crime and Propaganda

Pierre Lescaudron
Sott.net

In my previous article on the topic of immigration, I wrote that one of "the destructive consequences of non-integrated mass migration is a rise in crime".

Migration is the top concern for EU citizens

Migration is the top concern for EU citizens

I naively thought the connection between migration and crime was obvious. However, after publishing the article, I researched the topic further and realized that, as usual, things are way more complex and interesting than it seems.

In the present article we will try to understand the connections, if any, between migration and crime. To do so, we will go through a series of charts, we will interpret them and, more importantly, we will see how those data are often cherry-picked and twisted to serve extremist ideological discourses.

First, let's have a look at how migration is perceived. In Europe, immigration has clearly become the most important source of concern among the average citizen. It is ranked higher than terrorism or unemployment.

Whether this concern is justified doesn't really matter at this point, because it reveals an important point: a majority of European people are really concerned about immigration into their countries, i.e. there is an emotional load. And we know that heightened emotional states constitute a very fertile ground for hystericization, black and white thinking and extremist ideologies.

Perceived effects of immigration

Perceived effects of immigration
Negative Perception of Immigration in Europe

European people tend to associate immigration with negative effects like dilution of culture, rise in unemployment, misappropriation of social benefits and rise in crime.

Among those deleterious effects, it is actually crime that shows the strongest negative association with migration, as shown in the chart on the right.

Only 10% of EU citizens (purple ellipse) think migration has a positive effect on crime. This survey dates back to 2014, and the figure has probably deteriorated further since then.

The two previous charts only deal with public opinion. So are those opinions based on some hard evidence or are they just the result of propaganda, fear, prejudice, racism?

Make no mistake, we are living under a diversity dictatorship

Zoe Strimpel
The Telegraph

When a Cambridge don of Indian heritage announced last week that she would no longer teach for a certain college in protest at “racist profiling and aggression” by the college porters, some onlookers – including yours truly – recoiled.

Among other things, the don was enraged and felt racially insulted that the porters had insisted on calling her “Madam”, as they do all women, rather than “Doctor”, as she’d demanded.

To certain friends and I, however, it seemed highly likely that the porters’ surliness was less racism and more a natural response to an obnoxious, arrogant and imperious member of the intellectual elite telling them what to do.

But these days, that sort of argument counts for nothing – worse, it could get you sacked, exiled, barred, no-platformed, bullied or worse. Those who cry repression and oppression – racism, sexism, transphobism – have become judge, jury and executioner.

We’ve seen countless times in the past year or so how anyone accused of an outrage against identity will immediately pay the price, from classicist Mary Beard accused of racism and mauled on Twitter as a result, to Germaine Greer, ceaselessly attacked for her unorthodox views on transsexual women and #MeToo.

Students may need counseling after 'required' diversity training

  • Minnesota State University will have counselors standing by to comfort “student leaders” who have an “emotional response” after being required to attend a new diversity training.
  • MSU announced Wednesday that it is rolling out two new diversity trainings this fall, saying it is "expected" that faculty supervisors will "make this training required for student leaders."

  • Minnesota State University will have counselors standing by to comfort “student leaders” who have an “emotional response” after being required to attend a new diversity training.

MSU announced Wednesday that two new 90-minute workshops on social justice and diversity are being implemented for “student leaders" this fall, noting that staff/faculty supervisors are expected to “make this training required.”

While the announcement does not provide a comprehensive definition of what constitutes a student leader, it does state that "examples of student leaders/workers include: Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Office Assistants, Resident Assistants, Student Orientation Counselors, etc."

The announcement itself does not explicitly state that the workshops will be mandatory, saying only that “we encourage faculty and staff to send their student leaders and student workers to both training sessions.”

A supplementary document provided within the announcement, however, states that staff and faculty supervisors are "expected" to "make this training required for student leaders and stress the importance," as well as “encourage student interaction during the trainings” and "require students to complete pre- and post-training surveys."

Pro-Israeli lobby groups weaponizing 'diversity' campaigns to pump up anti-Palestinianism sentiment

    Yves Engler
    Dissident Voice

Should "Jewish Heritage Month" be used as a cover for Israeli nationalism and to suppress Palestinian protest?

A recent incident at a Toronto high school demonstrates the depravity of the pro-Israel lobby. It also illustrates their use of Canadian cultural and "diversity" initiatives to promote a country that declares itself to be the exact opposite of diverse.

Amidst the recent slaughter of nonviolent protesters in Gaza, a half-century illegal occupation of the West Bank and weekly bombings in Syria, an Israeli flag marked with "Jewish Heritage Month" was hoisted in the main foyer of Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. After a couple days the flag created by Israeli nationalist students was moved - possibly due to complaints from other students - to a less prominent location where Jewish Heritage Month events were taking place. In response B'nai Brith, Hasbara Fellowships, Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies and Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) all claimed persecution. "Discrimination has absolutely no place in our schools", noted a CIJA spokesperson with regards to moving the Israeli flag to a less prominent location in the school. For their part, the Wiesenthal Center said our "objective is to ensure that TDSB [Toronto District School Board] adheres to its own values of equity and inclusivity for all students" while B'nai Brith's press release decried the "Jewish students who have had their heritage denigrated." That group then published a story titled "Forest Hill Collegiate Has History of Alienating Jewish Students, Former Pupil Says."

After the uproar the flag was returned to the Forest Hill Collegiate Institute's main foyer and the TDSB apologized. At an assembly to discuss the matter, in which the principal and TDSB representative spoke standing behind a podium adorned with an Israeli flag, a student apparently yelled "Free Palestine". B'nai Brith immediately denounced the brave, internationalist-minded high schooler, tweeting: "

This morning, before an assembly about the removal of a #JewishHeritageMonth banner at Forest Hill Collegiate, a student yelled 'Free Palestine' during the morning announcements. We have been assured that this was not approved by the school and that an investigation is underway."
In another Twitter post B'nai Brith claimed the Israeli flag flap made a "mockery of Canada's first Jewish Heritage Month." Their statement highlights a mindset that views gaining official sanction of cultural initiatives as a way to strengthen their campaign to support a violent, European colonial outpost in the Middle East.

London cyclists too white, male and middle-class, says capital's cycling chief

Comment: More pointless "diversity targets" and disparaging comments about white people that should feel guilty for cycling. Ever thought that maybe a large proportion within ethnic minorities just aren't interested in cycling and a predominance of white, middle class people are? What an outrageous thought.

    The Independent

Will Norman vows to fix diversity ‘problem’ as figures show black, Asian and minority ethnic groups account for just 15 per cent of the city’s cycle trips

Cyclists in London are too white, male and middle class and more must be done to encourage women and ethnic minority groups to switch from four wheels to two, the city’s walking and cycling commissioner has said.

Grand schemes, such as the Cycle Superhighway network of partially-segregated routes linking the suburbs with the centre, are too often perceived as simply a way of getting “middle-aged men cycling faster around the city”, Will Norman acknowledged.

He said he was considering setting diversity targets for London’s cycling population to ensure progress was achieved.
