Study finds that women - but not men - seek to actively punish sexualized women

Eric W. Dolan
PsyPost

New research has found evidence that both men and women are prejudiced towards sexualized women. But only women are willing to endure a cost to themselves to punish a woman who appears to be promiscuous. The findings appear in Evolution and Human Behavior.

Across cultures, women and girls have been subjected to various attempts to control their sexuality. This has included slut shaming, female genital cutting, and honor killings.

The researchers from the University of Warwick wanted to better understand what motivates individuals to suppress female - but not male - sexuality. "If society is to understand and overcome the sexual double standard, interventionists should seek to uncover how men and women vary in their attitudes towards sexualized women," they explained.

In the study, participants played one of three kinds of economic decision-making games. The participants were led to believe they were playing against a female opponent in real-time, but were actually only interacting with computerized responses.

The opponents varied in whether they appeared to be sexually accessible or sexually restricted. For some participants, the opponent was depicted as a woman wearing a tight, red outfit and an abundance of makeup. For others, the opponent was depicted as a woman wearing loose-fitting clothing with less makeup.

Documentary: I Want My Sex Back

Billy, Rene, and Walt were born and raised as men, but they felt uncomfortable with their birth sex. After years of confusion, they each underwent surgery to change into what they thought were their true selves. However, sex change brought no relief to what they had believed was gender dysphoria. While Billy and Walt decided to go back to being men, Rene remained a transsexual woman. I Want My Sex Back! tells their stories of change and disappointment.

New literature review warns that current sexual assault interventions might actually increase offending among high-risk men

Comment: Yet more evidence that good intentions and attempts to change societies en masse with faulty social science doesn't work. Moreover, by "high risk" men they mean sociopaths and psychopaths. Such interventions only serve to incite them. Again, social psychology needs to expand its research into ponerology.

Psychology can help people one person at a time, but it also holds the promise of changing society at a mass scale, through campaigns to change attitudes and behaviour. One such endeavour is the development of programmes to reduce the rates of sexual assault of women on university campuses. But in a literature review in Aggression and Violent Behavior, researchers from the University of California make the case that such programmes may not just be ineffective, but counterproductive.

In 2013 the US passed its Violence Against Women Act; in response most US university campuses launched programmes that aimed to reduce sexual assault by raising awareness, changing attitudes and behaviours and encouraging bystanders to take a stand. But there has been little systematic evaluation of these programmes, and the evidence for any benefits is thus far thin. Of the 140 college-based behaviour change programmes studied by the Center for Disease Control, it recommended only three on the balance of evidence; all three focused on changing bystander action and two of the three merely showed “promise of effectiveness”. Other reviews have produced slightly more positive conclusions but often with weak effects or without evidence of actual behaviour change.

Lovers' Ultimate Sex Hack: Karezza

Reuniting.info

Karezza side effects may include more energy and a healthier libido

Not long ago, there was a brief publicity flurry about a venerable, but little known, approach to sex called "karezza" (pronounced ka-RET-za). ABC ran a news story and karezza articles showed up from Argentina to India. The ladies of The View even grappled with it. A karezza subreddit gained steam, and Germany gave birth to a new karezza website.

Still, chances are good that you haven't a clue what karezza is. Before I explain, here's a bit of context. Human mating has some very un-Disney characteristics. True, new lovers are jacked up on thrilling honeymoon neurochemicals. For example, they have extra nerve growth factor and cortisol flowing through their veins. Dopamine-releasing areas of the brain are activated. Their serotonin is often as low as the levels of OCD patients—which is why lovers obsess over each other. In addition, odd things are going on with their testosterone levels: They're lower than normal in men during early romance, and higher than normal in women—bringing their libidos more into sync.

Yet all these potent neurochemicals return to base levels by the end of year two at the latest. Once that booster shot wears off, cracks tend to appear. That's when habituation can set in if couples don't learn to counter it. The standard sex advice for committed couples—which is to heat things back up to earlier intensity with more variety in the bedroom—often backfires. "Heat" can gradually numb lovers' response to pleasure, making vanilla pleasures even less fulfilling. Mates may end up on an unsatisfying, but very demanding, treadmill of seeking new highs while feeling less overall pleasure.

Karezza is an organic way to hack our pair-bonding machinery and remain attracted to each other. It has turned up in various cultures over thousands of years. In simplest terms, it's affectionate, sensual intercourse without the goal of climax. Intercourse is generally frequent, although not necessarily daily. But couples typically also engage in daily "bonding behaviors." These attachment cues are very powerful, and have been shown to reduce stress as well as strengthen bonds.

In this post, I'll address some of the natural questions people have about this unfamiliar practice.

Chile: Sex Change No Longer Required To Alter Gender Identity

TeleSur

The supreme court ruled that the rights of transgender people need to be respected and they don't need an operation to prove their gender identity.

Chile's Supreme Court has ruled 4-1 that transgender citizens can change their name and sex on state registries without needing a sex-change operation to prove their gender identity.

The ruling said that Chile is part of several international human rights accords, including the American Convention of Human Rights and the International Pact of Civil and Political Rights, which obligates the state to "guarantee the human rights of all without discrimination based on race, color, sex, language, religion, political opinions… or any other social condition."

With these agreements as precedents, the judges ruled that "transgender people, they must always be treated with full respect and guarantees to their human rights enshrined in the various international instruments."

The ruling, released Wednesday, reads that "any change of name must respect the reality that serves the (person's) parameters."

School Curriculum in Ariz. Includes Anal Sex, Necrophilia

Comment: More insanity from a demented minority of our "educators"...

-----------------

John Wynne
Liberty Headlines

Condom use, anal sex, and a glossary from Planned Parenthood that contains terms like BDSM and necrophilia are just some of the things the Sunnyside Unified District in Tucson, Ariz., thinks are appropriate for children to learn about, starting as young as 11.

A press release from Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit that defends traditional values in court, details the shocking curriculum designed by Advocates for Youth, a partner of Planned Parenthood.

Unsurprisingly, Advocates for Youth heavily promotes abortion, and has the following stance on the issue: “Young women need the right to safe and legal abortion … United States policies contribute to an anti-choice climate and limit young women’s access to abortion. No young woman, anywhere, should be forced to seek out an illegal, dangerous procedure or carry a pregnancy she didn’t want to term.”

One of the goals of the curriculum, at least for 12thgraders, is to teach proper condom use – including for anal sex.

Liberty Counsel notes there has never been a condom approved for use by the FDA for this dangerous sexual activity.

According to its press release, material from the curriculum mentions or refers students to Planned Parenthood no less than 24 times.

National Geographic now enabling extremist 'left-wing' ideological views on gender

Amanda Prestigiacomo
Dailywire

via Sott.net

To the sound of thunderous praise from the Left, National Geographic has decided to bring in the New Year by celebrating a nine-year-old boy's sexual confusion.

The magazine's special "Gender Revolution" issue features a cover photo of Avery Jackson, a biologically male elementary student, as seen below.

"The 'Gender Revolution' issue, which hits newsstands nationwide on Dec. 27, examines the 'cultural, social, biological and personal' aspects of gender identity, according to a press release. Features include 'Dangerous Lives of Girls,' which follows the lives of young women in Sierra Leone, and 'Rethinking Gender,' which examines how science can help 'navigate the shifting landscape of gender identity,'" notes The Huffington Post.

National Geographic's Editor-in-Chief Susan Goldberg boasted of the issue via Twitter, calling it "historic."

"We just published our historic special issue of [National Geographic] on the #GenderRevolution," bragged Goldberg.

But as the Left hyperventilates over their own self-deemed tolerance and goodness, the truth remains that transgenderism is a mental disorder, with real-life repercussions to real people -- not virtue signaling props.

As previously noted by The Daily Wire, studies show that the rate of children who grow out of their sexual confusion about their identity by adulthood is upward of 80 percent. Scores of children who were taken as victim by the "transgender cult" have shared their tragic stories with the world, warning against capitulation to the condition which often proves permanently damaging.

Comment: Puberty especially, is a time of transition and confusion, and to take advantage of that confusion to infuse gender ideology is an assault on children and teenagers, leading them to make some potentially irreversible and devastating choices later on in life.

How internet porn is creating a generation of men desensitised to real life sex

The Independent

Porn-induced erectile dysfunction is becoming increasingly widespread

A masculinity expert says he fears heavy internet porn usage may have left up to one in 10 young men with erection problems.

Dr Andrew Smiler said that easy access to endless streaming porn is leaving healthy young men with the sexual problem.

He told The Independent: “The guys I see, most of them are between 13 and 25. The vast majority are, for the most part, the picture of physical health.

“So if I’m masturbating to porn once a day for 15 minutes but I do that every day for five years, I’m pretty well on my way to being an expert to having an orgasm to porn.”

He warned that because many heavy users are young, the habit becomes even more concerning.

“If I’m 17 and that is 90% of my sexual orgasmic experience, then I’ve put a lot of effort into that particular variety/flavour of sexual development but I’ve put in very little time developing my sexuality with another person, so it makes it more challenging to become aroused to another person and you find yourself in this other direction which is often very different to sex with a person.”

A 2014 study found that one third of men watch porn every day, and given that porn consumption has been increasing over the past few years - largely due to the advent of the smartphones and super-fast data connections - it’s likely that number is now even higher.

Meet The Spornosexual: How A Weak Economy Sparked The Selfie-Generation

Zero Hedge

Poor economies impact countries in a number of detrimental ways including higher rates of poverty, unemployment and chronic disease. Now, a new study shows the bad economy is to blame for another unfortunate trend: the rise of the selfie generation and "spornosexuality."

As PlanetFreeWill.com's Joseph Jankowski reports, according to a new study from the University of East Anglia (UEA), young men are seeking value through their bodies rather than traditional value creation because of poor economic conditions.

Since the 2008 financial crisis, more men have been taking to social media to post images of their fit bodies, says the study’s author, Dr Jamie Hakim.

This trend has been labeled ‘spornosexuality’, a combination of ‘sports star’ and ‘porn star’. It was coined in July 2014 by media commentator Mark Simpson, in an article in The Daily Telegraph about the rise of men attending the gym primarily for reasons of appearance, rather than for health or fitness.
"One of the most interesting aspects of this development is the power-shift of a segment of society who have historically defined themselves through their mind, whilst at the same time defining those they have subordinated – women, gay and working-class people – through their bodies,” said Dr Jamie Hakim.

“The former group has historically been employed as high-paid decision-makers, whilst the latter have had to rely on their bodies for low- or no-pay work, such as manual and domestic labour, slavery and sex work.”
The study, titled ‘The Spornosexual’: the affective contradictions of male body-work in neoliberal digital culture’, was published on Thursday in the Journal of Gender Studies.

Sex change men in the UK to give birth on NHS funds

Comment: I'm all for people being whomever they wish to be but this is getting way out of hand, frankly thanks to P.C. sensibilities going through the roof. Heaven forbid you should criticise such perceived entitlement.

"Last night critics said cash-strapped health authorities should not be spending up to £34,000 per patient to help them change sex and have children when they are rationing basic services such as cataract operations, hip replacements and even hearing aids."

In a nut-shell.

But then that obviously means I'm being outrageously sexist and anti-transgender ...
---------------------

Sanchez Manning & Stephen Adams
Mail Online

Women having sex changes on the NHS are being given free fertility treatment so they can have babies after they become men.

At least three British men who were born female are 'on the brink' of becoming parents using IVF techniques, according to a top doctor.

And dozens more are now having their eggs frozen at NHS clinics before undergoing surgery or hormone therapy to switch sex.

The controversial treatment means that a British transgender man could soon become a parent - all funded by the taxpayer.

In rare circumstances, the man could become pregnant and give birth, although the vast majority of cases would involve implanting an embryo into a surrogate mother, often the man's partner.
Last night critics said cash-strapped health authorities should not be spending up to £34,000 per patient to help them change sex and have children when they are rationing basic services such as cataract operations, hip replacements and even hearing aids.

Tory MP Peter Bone said: 'I am not sure why the taxpayer should be funding this. I just sometimes ask if the NHS is getting its priorities right.'

But one of Britain's leading sex change doctors defended the practice, saying patients undergoing gender reassignment surgery had as much right to preserve their fertility as young people with cancer who freeze their eggs or sperm before having chemotherapy.

Dr James Barrett, of the NHS Gender Identity Clinic in West London, said three of his patients who have transitioned from women to men were close to becoming parents.

He added that, in the last year, he had asked GPs to refer about 50 of his female-to-male patients to have eggs frozen, and about 100 of his male-to-female patients to have their sperm frozen.

'As a matter of principle, anybody who loses their fertility as a result of standard NHS treatment should be able to preserve their fertility,' he argued

Sexual mind programming: Over half of boys think pornographic sex is realistic

RT

Boys who view online pornography believe it's a realistic depiction of sex, according to a study of British high school students by Middlesex University.

The research, which was commissioned by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), found that out of 1,000 pupils aged 11-16, 53 percent said they had viewed online pornography. While some searched for it, many were likely to have come across it accidentally, often through pop-up ads.

Indeed, 53 percent of boys who had viewed pornography said they thought it depicted a realistic impression of sex, while 39 percent of girls thought the images were realistic.

Some 41 percent of boys and girls who viewed porn for the first time felt 'curious,' while 27 percent said they were 'shocked', 27 percent 'confused,' and 24 percent said they were 'disgusted.'

X-rated sites were accessed for the first time on a mobile device or tablet by 33 percent of those surveyed.

One girl, aged between 11 and 12, told researchers she "didn't like it because it came on by accident," the Guardian reports.

"I don't want my parents to find out and the man looked like he was hurting her, he was holding her down and she was screaming and swearing," the girl added. "I know about sex but it didn't look nice. It makes me feel sick if I think about my parents doing it like that."

Canada’s Supreme Court Legalizes Some Sex Acts with Animals

Comment: Has it really come to this? Are we so inside our psychopathic social systems that we can't even tell the difference between what is pathological and moral anymore? It would seem so.

----------------------

Breitbart

Canada’s highest court has just ruled that some sex acts between humans and animals are legal.

In a quixotic ruling, the country’s high court ruled that a man who was on trial for raping and sexually exploiting his own daughters wasn’t guilty of “bestiality.” The man reportedly, “smeared peanut butter on the genitals of his victims and had the family dog lick it off while he videotaped the act.”

The convicted man took his case to the Canadian Supreme Court, demanding that the bestiality charge be nullified. In the end, the court agreed.

As a result of the rape case, the court ruled 7 to 1 that humans having sexual contact with animals is OK if there is no “penetration” involved in the act.

In its ruling, the court decided that the legislature had not clearly defined the terms in the country’s bestiality laws and the way the statute is written should be read to only outlaw animal penetration, whether that penetration is animal to human or vice versa.

“Although bestiality was often subsumed in terms such as sodomy or buggery, penetration was the essence — ‘the defining act’ — of the offense,” the court’s ruling states as reported by The Independent.

The high court’s lone dissenter, though, said the ruling would mean open season for the sexual exploitation of animals.

New Year's in Cologne: Sexual crime and the radicalizing of European society

Harrison Koehli
Sott.net

By now we've all heard what happened in Cologne, Germany, on New Year's Eve. A group of 1000 refugees allegedly caused mayhem in the city's main square, drinking heavily, launching firecrackers into the crowd, robbing people, and sexually assaulting over 100 women. According to Cologne police, over 200 cases of sexual assault have been registered. A climate of fear is the result, along with a backlash against authorities, from local police to Germany's leadership. It's "sexual terrorism" at its worst, proof that Germany's experiment in multiculturalism, and their open-arms policy to refugees from the Middle East and North Africa, have been utter failures. The coverage and reactions are unequivocal. But is this narrative justified? Hardly. We don't even have a clear idea of exactly what happened in Cologne that night. The fact that all media outlets are in agreement - in a country where the media is controlled by the CIA - indicates the 'operational' and contrived nature of the coverage, and perhaps even the event itself.

So far, available video from the scene shows a large crowd of young people (mostly men) on the square, some obviously drinking, and several of them launching firecrackers into the sky and some into the crowd. Basically, a large group, or several smaller groups, of teens and twenty-somethings acting like teens and twenty-somethings do in most of the Western world: irresponsibly and "just having a bit of fun". What the videos don't show, but what certainly also occurred, was a series of sexual assaults on women in the area by an unknown number of these young men. Victims report being forced through groups of young men - of Middle Eastern or North African appearance - where they were repeatedly groped at, some robbed, and at least one or two reportedly raped.

Police have identified 32 suspects, 18 or 19 of whom are recent asylum seekers. Another report says the breakdown of suspects is as follows: nine Algerians, eight Moroccans, five Iranians, four Syrians, three Germans, one Iraqi, one Serb, and one American.

It's hard to get an idea of the actual number of people involved just by looking at suspects: some are probably innocent, and some could very likely remain unidentified. But from the reports I have read and watched, it sounds like the men involved in these attacks were part of a much smaller group, perhaps 30-40 men, as one of the victims described. (If any of our readers have reports saying otherwise, please let us know in the comments.) This makes sense. The mainstream reporting doesn't.

Think about it. Reading the mainstream reporting, we would be forgiven for thinking that all 1000 men in the square participated in the assaults, because that's what the MSM is saying. But how was this determined? How are we to imagine every single male in this crowd collectively assaulting 100-200 women? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of the women reported this. Much more plausible is that a smaller number of perverts (say, 2 or 3 dozen) each assaulted multiple women in the manner the witnesses describe.

Regardless of the number of perps, the assaults seem to have involved some degree of advance planning, especially given that similar attacks occurred in Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Austria, which have led the German Justice Minister to suspect the multiple assaults were coordinated. At the very least, it appears that social media was used to plan the gathering in the city square, but there's no indication that the call was put out to rob and sexually assault women. If that happened, it happened using a different means, perhaps among a smaller, more select group.

Since the attacks, rival groups have demonstrated for and against refugees. "Unknown assailants" have carried out attacks on random refugees. Merkel's party has proposed tougher laws on asylum seekers, with some politicians calling for deportations.

Half Of Young Adults In Great Britain Don't Identify As Straight

Vocative

Over half of adults aged 18-to-24 in Great Britain identify as something other than exclusively heterosexual, according to a new survey.

Market research firm YouGov polled 1,632 adults, asking respondents to report their sexual identity using the Kinsey scale—a measuring system created by noted sexologist Alfred Kinsey, where 0 is “exclusively heterosexual” and 6 is “exclusively homosexual.” It found that 28% of all participants identify as something other than straight. This jumps to 54% for those aged 18-to-24.

Overall, 72 percent identified as exclusively heterosexual and four percent said they were exclusively homosexual, compared to 46 percent and six percent, respectively, for 18-to-24 year olds. The others were scattered along the spectrum, though in all age groups bisexuals were mostly clumped around 1 on the Kinsey scale, meaning they are closer to exclusive heterosexuality.

The figures show that sexual fluidity is more likely the younger someone is. Of respondents aged 18-to-24, 52 percent saw their sexuality as fixed (either straight or gay), with this number growing with age: 67 percent of 25-to-39 year olds, 81 percent of 40-to-59 year olds, and 89 percent of those aged 60+

By denying objective reality, we end up a society of sexually frustrated Pinocchios

The Saker

We live in a strange world. Check out just the recent news: putative European "democrats" support Nazis and don't seem to notice that the latter are using weapons of war, including chemical munitions, multiple-rocket launchers and ballistic missiles, against cities. We live in a world were it is apparently quite normal for the IMF/ECB/etc. to continue to send money to a bankrupt country in the midst of the civil war in total violation of their own statutes, but where an EU/NATO member like Greece cannot even get a few days worth of credit extension. In the USA homosexuals will now be "playing marriage" and continue to adopt children to pretend to be viable couples. In the Middle-East the Israelis are happily continuing to commit acts of piracy on the high seas while Canada wants to pass a law making criticizing Israel a punishable form of "hate speech". Besides being revolting, is all this not just plain crazy?!

"Democratic" countries are ruled by the 1% but "authoritarian regimes" like Russia, Iran or Syria all undeniably have the support of the masses (and the eternal hatred of the local wannabe 1%ers!).

And it is not just politics - this insanity reaches much deeper into our society. Men are not supposed to be manly any more, while women are now told that femininity is being stupid and submissive. Honor is now passé, as is obedience, kindness, faithfulness and humility.

We are supposed to be sexually free, yet there is a huge multi-billion dollar industry fully dedicated to cater to sexually dysfunctional people (sexually happy people need neither porn nor Viagra!). We are supposed to be politically free, but somehow the policies of our rulers seem to never change. We are supposed to be intellectually free (freedom of speech!!) and yet with each new generation the already disgraceful level of crass ignorance of the average citizen is getting worse and worse.

But that's no big deal as long as we maintain the illusion that the fake substitute is, in reality, the real thing. From top to bottom our entire society is based on a charade, a fraud, a pretense of reality, but none of it is real.

But when did this all start?

I know that many will disagree with me, but I see a direct cause and effect relationship between the denial of moral reality and the denial of physical reality. I can't prove that, of course, but here is my thesis:

Modern Music: Promoting pedophilia to adults and sexual debauchery to children

"Music induces strong emotions that can make individuals more susceptible to changes in attitude or behavior. Multiple studies demonstrated the influence of visual media on risky attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors among adolescents. Combined in a music video, music and visuals may enhance, redirect, or contrast with the effects of the lyrics and introduce new aspects to the media experience that were not understood or considered previously by the viewer.

"The combination of music and video may be synergistic in their effect on adolescent attitudes and behavior. Once music establishes a mood, the lyrics and images that are portrayed may have more impact than either form alone. Music can alter an individual's receptivity to visual presentation. A study from the early years of music television found that the enhancement of rock music with a visual component increased appreciation of the music. Conversely, research shows that after watching music videos, the visual images persist with the viewer even when that individual is listening to an audio only version of a song; most music video viewers ''always'' or ''frequently'' thought of content from the music video when listening to the corresponding music. Rubin et al demonstrated that college students assessed music videos more positively and believed that they were more ''potent'' than music alone "
So, the presence of both audio and visual stimulation can cause the visual image portrayed in a music video to "persist with the viewer"? They further state:
"Music videos socialize young people by communicating ideas about expected behavior, relationships, and male and female roles. Although music videos are diverse and individual music videos portray a variety of gender roles and responsibilities, content analysis of music videos demonstrates that those who use music videos as a source of social learning generally receive specific information about the roles, responsibilities, and behavior of their gender in society."
OK! So we are now aware that children and adolescents listen to a lot of music, and we also can see that music can induce strong emotions and can "communicate ideas about expected behaviors, relationships and male and female roles" playing a definite role in a child's identity formation, while visual images can "persist with the viewer even when that individual is listening to an audio only version of a song". So what type of music do kids today listen to?

The 2014 VMAs: All About Oversexualization Pushed by Music Industry Puppets

Vigilant Citizen

The 2014 VMAs were focused on a single theme – a theme that was expressed using most of the stars of the show. From Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande to Iggy Azalea and Beyonce, the sight and the sounds of the VMAs were about one thing: Oversexualization using Illuminati puppets.

Last year’s VMAs were all about Miley Cyrus acting like a fully programmed Beta Kitten. This year, nearly all of the performers who took the stage were acting like fully programmed Beta Kittens. When the “highlights” of an award show are the butt implants of Nicki Minaj and (most likely) Iggy Azalea, you know there wasn’t much substance there. After the show, MTV reported as “news” that Austin Mahone said about Nicki Minaj:
“Her butt was just huge. That was all I could focus on.”
This pretty much sums up the 2014 VMAs: a dumbstruck audience staring at butts for a few hours, mixed with some industry pawns getting shiny trophies. While some viewers might say “That was awesome!”, let’s not forget that the target audience of MTV are born around the year 2000. They are the ones growing up watching this, absorbing the sights and sounds. And the sights and sounds of the 2014 VMAs sent a clear message to these youths.

Oversexualization means, simply, “sexualizing excessively”. Yes, making love is a wonderful part of life, but when this act is debased, corrupted, exploited, and sold to young, immature minds, it can produce lifelong negative psychological and interpersonal effects. However, to the occult elite, those effects are desirable because it produces a population with “loose morals”, which is just the kind of population they are looking to create.

Breaking the silence on male rape

BBC News

Rape is a crime that affects thousands of people, and for many victims one of the hardest things can be getting the help they need to move on with their lives

It can be particularly hard for male survivors, as there are only five special support centres in the UK for men. There are 145 for women and girls

Now the government has allocated £500,000 to a special fund to help support male rape survivors.
Duncan Craig was himself raped and now runs a support group. He told BBC Breakfast that many men were silenced and felt that they could talk about what had happened to them.

America's 'virgin births'? One in 200 mothers 'became pregnant without having sex'

The Independent

The results of a long-term study of reproductive health, published in the British Medical Journal, have revealed that one in two hundred US women claim to have given birth without ever having had sexual intercourse.

The findings were based on a study of 7,870 women and girls aged 15 to 28, as part of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, which ran from 1995 to 2009.

The Christmas issue of the BMJ reports that, of the women who took part in the study, 45 (0.5%) reported at least one virgin pregnancy, "unrelated to the use of assisted reproductive technology."

In short, they claimed to have conceived - yet had not had vaginal intercourse or in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).

The BMJ article notes that virgin births, or parthenogenesis (from the Greek parthenos for virgin and genesis for birth), can occur in non-humans as a consequence of "asexual reproduction, where growth and development of the embryo occurs without fertilization".

The article notes that as well as the story of the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary, parthenogenesis often appears in popular culture, "including the Spielberg blockbuster Jurassic Park3 and the 2008 Dr Who episode “Partners in Crime.”

'Designer vagina surgery not to be carried out on NHS'

Comment: If this doesn't illustrate the epidemic rise of narcissism - especially in women - then I don't know what does. Designer vaginas?? Dear God.

---------------
Genital surgery is not recommended before girls have reached 18 years old
BBC News

"Designer vagina" surgery should not be carried out on the NHS or on girls under the age of 18, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has said.

In a paper looking at female genital cosmetic surgery, it says women and girls should realise that female genitalia come in all shapes and sizes.

They should also be told of the risks of this type of surgery.

Labiaplasties on the NHS have risen fivefold in the past 10 years.

Labiaplasty is the most common type of female genital cosmetic surgery, in which the size of the labia minora is reduced.

It can be a treatment for women who have concerns with hygiene, difficulties during sexual intercourse or discomfort when exercising, but some women and girls want surgery because of concerns about the way their genitalia look.

In extreme cases this can be linked to body dysmorphic disorder, which causes significant anxieties about body image.
We need to inform women that everyone is unique and that variation in appearance is normal...”
Dame Suzi Leather chair of RCOG ethics committee

Statistics show that more than 2,000 labiaplasty operations were performed in 2010 on the NHS.
Many more are carried out by private clinics but there are no figures available on these procedures, although the RCOG says "the practice of labiaplasty is now widespread".

'Everyone is unique'

Dame Suzi Leather, chair of the RCOG's ethics committee, said there was concern over the recent figures.

"Some women are requesting it solely for cosmetic reasons and these decisions are not always being made on an informed understanding of the normal variations that exist, but influenced by images from popular culture and the pornography industry.

"We need to inform women that everyone is unique and that variation in appearance is normal in the vast majority of cases," she said.

The RCOG paper recommends that women should be offered counselling and psychological treatment for problems such as "body image distress".

The paper says: "Education, support and advice should be at the heart of clinical practice, with a sympathetic appreciation of female body insecurities."

Official stats show that the labiaplasty procedure is not restricted to adults. In the past five years, 266 of these procedures have been carried out on girls under 14.

While the reasons for the procedures are unknown, they are likely to have been performed for medical reasons or to correct congenital abnormalities.

In another paper, published by the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (BritSPAG), clinicians are advised to inform girls under 18 that labiaplasty surgery before puberty is complete can lead to long-term problems.
"We would like to see tougher central regulation of the cosmetic surgery industry to help clamp down on anyone performing these operations unnecessarily”

Although no research has been carried out on these long-term risks, it is thought that damage to sexual function and sensitivity can occur after labiaplasty. Bleeding and wound infection can also occur in the short term.

The paper also recommends that girls showing signs of psychological problems should be referred to a paediatric clinical psychologist.

Sensitivity

Consultant plastic surgeon Paul Banwell, from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, welcomed the recommendations published in both papers and said patients should always be given full, accurate information and be properly counselled before surgery.

But he said clinicians should also be sensitive to potential problems.

"An asymmetrical labia can lead to functional problems as well as aesthetic problems. Over 50% of my patients see me due to functional reasons. Only a small proportion are there for purely aesthetic reasons."

He also said he had seen the number of patients requesting labiaplasty increase dramatically in the past few years.

Tim Goodacre, head of professional standards at the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and a consultant plastic surgeon, said he supported the recommendations as a means of improving patient care.

"We would like to see tougher central regulation of the cosmetic surgery industry to help clamp down on anyone performing these operations unnecessarily, and without due consideration for patient care."
But he said he found attempts to increase profits by encouraging more female genital procedures "abhorrent".

He added: "We urge stringent and robust restrictions on advertising such operations with a firm objective to limit any material other than that with information only. All advertising that could in any way be seen as persuasive should be banned."
